Pine is (still) Fine at Annual Block Party

At a time when Kismet traditions are rapidly disappearing the block party is struggling to survive thanks to a stalwart group on Pine Walk.

While not as big as the legendary East Lighthouse Block Parties the spirit and the potential is there.

It is commendable that these few houses (and boats) donate time, imagination and money to keep the tradition alive.

Few people attend a block party for the food but this one may be the exception.

Wendy and Jeff’s house Schou/Romaka became as usual the party’s centerpiece serving various hors d'vors: buffalo chicken dip, kielbasa with pineapple skewers, and Swedish meatballs. Dinner was chicken and vegetable skewers, penne a la vodka, chicken legs, seafood, Mac n cheese, homemade potato salad, seafood pasta.
La Famiglia brought clam dip and onion dip.
Yellow house supplied a huge bowl of guacamole and a lovely pasta salad.
Lawman-Stew McLoughlin contributed lasagna.
Tim and Carrie of Shakedown Street supplied everyone with cheeseburgers and hot dogs. Tim was on the grill while Carrie served the food.
Bonnie from Lawn House brought her famous elbow and shrimp salad.
Boaters Dusty and Mike brought chili dip and Kathy and Gus brought cantaloupe and prosciutto and yummy cannoli dippers for dessert. Rick and Susie brought a cheese and cracker platter.

Eileen had a picnic table covered in newspaper chowing down on crabs.

Topping it off was liquor infused water melon. And of course Jell-O shots
Kegs of beer flowed freely.

And drinks…and drinks…and drinks

(Thank you Jeff, whose generosity is legendary)

A Block Party of this size does not happen without lots of volunteers.
Eileen Rafferty took on getting the Pine is Fine tank tops. Linda Knoth got the kegs of beer and hired the band-J Haus. Wendy Schou collected the money from the home owners. Dana Hanner did the 50/50. Jeff Schou brought the kegs back to the mainland and returned them. Bill and Sandy Romaka donated the tent for the band as did Marty Brenner as well.

The usual beer pong and can jam games were played.

New this year was the smokin’ J Haus band, whose appearance coincided coincidentally with the weather which broke at the same time dispersing the happy crowd.
