Jeannie,
My Dad came to Kismet in the 1950 to run the Boatel. He spent many days
fishing on the Kismet ferry dock. While fishing he shared his local
knowledge of fishing and taught many, many Kismet kids how to fish. Dad
passed in 1997, Joyce Cole, Jackie Baker and Bob Ryan decided to honor my Dad
by creating the “Arthur Lem Snapper Derby” in his honor after his
passing. After several years the torch for the Derby was passed onto me
and Lee and I ran the tournament for many successive years.
We did not have the Derby last year due to COVID. Lee and I have decided
to spend a lot more time in Kismet and at the urging of many Kismet residents
and with their support we have re-constituted the Snapper Derby.
Its a totally free event and its supported by literally every business in the
Kismet community. Truly it takes a village to run a great snapper derby.
