Editor’s Notes: And the winners are............
Although not without controversy (Choosing The Ferryman Best Play
over Mockingbird
which continues to be hugely successful while being snubbed by the Tonys and
Drama Desk: rewarding Best Orchestrations to the surgically reduced “orchestra”
diminishing the glory of Rogers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma)
The remaining choices mostly reflect the popular opinion.
We will have Brian Cranston if not Jeff Daniels, and home town
favorite Elaine May over Britain’s theater royalty Glenda Jackson.
Awarding Best Musical Revival to the Yiddish Fiddler, defuses
the rivalry between Kiss Me
Kate and
Oklahoma.
It warms my heart that the uniquely brilliant Hadestown Best New
Musical) and its Star, veteran Andre de Shields (Feature actor Hadestown) got the
recognition they deserve.
Bravo Tutti!
