THE FIRST ANNUAL PINE WALK BLOCK PARTY

Well….not the first ever, not all of Pine, but definitely the Best

Notes from Organizer in Chief Tim:

Participants: Flat Top (aka Shakedown Street) – where I manned the BBQ, Carrie and Pam made beans and pasta salads.  Across from us is Sea Roses with Jeff and Wendy Schou - Jeff's other name of his house is 4-ish, he still hasn't decided, (Sea Roses repeated rapidly according to Jeff  sounds like Cirrhosis – apt) they had many appetizers  Next to me is Ruts Hut with Russ and Linda Knoth, again not sure what food they had.  Next to Jeff and Wendy is Paddy Shack owned by Eileen Rafferty (who had a lot to do with T-shirts and beer), who supplied the keg and a big pot of crabs.  Rounding out the 5th house is Bananas with Joe and Debbie with sausage and peppers.  Honorable mention to Harry & Phyllis, John Alteri, Dana and Joe of La Familia and Tom and Cathy Farrell who all contributed either money or food.

Games included bean bag toss, giant beer pong, and can jam.  The 50/50 raffle earned Joe McKeehan as the lucky winner of $480 while we as the people who threw the party are contributing the house money towards the North Shore LIJ Southside Hospital Trauma Center.  There is going to be a Pirate Fest that is a fund raiser taking place in Kismet on August 4th that is associated with this and the money will be donated by Pine Block.  Here's the link:

Obviously Don and Russ were a big part of this party which drew way over a hundred people, most of which were locals dancing in the street - practically everyone knew each other.  This was one of the best block parties thrown in many years, with no bad incidents drunken fights or anything negative.

Kismet was starved for a good old fashioned block party and that's exactly what we got.

Editor’s note:

It was more like a carnival with all ages from the young groupers who played beer pong, to the adults who competed seriously (and endlessly) in bean bag toss in the street, and the friendliest.

Flower festooned ladies became instant hippies, sitting on the street (yes, you, Dana)  Tim is too modest about the food – any event involving Carrie, Tim and Pam translates into gourmet food – even the hot dogs weren’t – they were huge sausages! The 4-ish spread included Swedish meat balls, what I think was pulled pork sliders, luscious pastas and tossed salad, among other delicacies. Definitely the largest customized drinks delivered by gracious hosts, I didn’t get a chance to get to all the food – sorry I missed the crabs! But per capita it was the classiest! (and I got the sense budgets were not a consideration)

Even had jello shots but in rigid plastic cups – close enough!

Community favorites, Don & Russ played gamely from start till somewhere after 11PM.
