The 2017 Tenth Annual
Kismet Burger Cook Off was a huge success. Saturday night on Kismet Beach at
Sea Bay Walk. 16
contestants came out with burgers for their friends and neighbors to taste
trying to win bragging rights. It was hosted by Chef John Berninzoni. There
were contestants from all reaches of the town. Rookies showed up big this year
too, 7 competitors braved putting themselves out there. As the 16 contestants and their minions
rushed to put their offerings out on the buffet table the 5 full tables of
burgers are quite a vision to behold.
One of the newest
additions to this years event was the addition of a panel of judges, giving
their stomachs over to finding the best. The panel was made up of friend and
neighbors, Captain Morgan Mooney Fire Island Ferries, Nick, Dave Negrin from
BVT, and Gordon. Jake
Purdey from "FireIsland
Tap" donated some fine bottles for the winners.
The judges tasted all
the burgers and seeing the looks on their faces at the end was true dedication
of what it takes to eat over 5 burgers each! The judges gave out many awards:
The best non meat burger
was voted the Sweet and Spicy Salmon Fillet burger By Kathy Scanlon from Lions
head,
The Most Best Burger was
voted Gregg Weiser's Burger for his custom blend of cuts of Beef and two kinds
of Cheese and a caramelized onion marmalade, made it too good for words.
The crowd tasted over
500 pieces of burger and were enjoying the night on the beach. The completion
was extremely close but one just had the right amount of everything.
The people's choice was
the Onion Burger by Jodi Goldman.
